The person I interviewed for the year 1966 was my father John Hairston. I asked him what he likes about the song and why he does. His reply was " I like how the song is based on love and not letting your pride ruining the relationship." He says he likes it because, " It's based on something important in life unlike the things that are being sung in these past decades."
The article that was selected to be sited was "Meredith, James". This articles is based on the first African American student to enroll at the University of Mississippi (Old Miss). However I focused on the event of his one man protest he called " Walk Against Fear". The protest was against racial violence which originated in Memphis, Tennessee and was supposed to end in Jackson the state capital. Unfortunately shortly after he crossed into Mississippi, he was shot by an unknown assailant. Other civil rights organizations like the South Christian Leadership Conference and the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee continued the march to Jackson. Meredith James rejoined the marchers after he recovered from his wounds to protest the day before they reached the state capital.
